Our story - How LOUDER began

The story of LOUDER began in Pitești, Romania, in 28-31 July 2018. Our team members from Finland, Romania and Russia had gathered there to participate in Europe Lab annual forum. Europe Lab brings together changemakers from different countries, backgrounds and disciplines to exchange ideas, learn from one another and develop common project initiatives. The Forum for Young Professionals Europe Lab 2018 was organised by EU-Russia Civil Society Forum in cooperation with the Pitești Prison Memorial, INLAR, DRA / German-Russian Exchange, Competendo, WECHANGE Platform and the University of Pitești, and was supported by the European Commission and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom.

While engaging in different activities related to documenting historical memory, our team members participated also in a workshop on gender and diversity. While there, our team members exchanged their views on challenges such as discrimination and prejudices, and started brainstorming possible solutions for such problems. Encouraged by conversations with inspiring artists, activists and community leaders, our team members came together to draft a project idea: a totally inclusive, touring citizens' art exhibition highlighting the importance of diversity and intersectionality in our communities. With the gentle and caring guidance from the wonderful Europe Lab trainers Alina Aflecailor and Bianca Constantin, a project proposal started to emerge.

In September 2018, project LOUDER was selected as one of three winning projects to receive funding from EU-Russia Civil Society Forum. Since then, our team members have worked in their respective locations to reach out to communities with potential interest in LOUDER. Venues have been researched, networks have been built, partners have been identified. Potential of art as a tool for creating space for more diversity, inclusiveness and acceptance has been explored.

Next, LOUDER team will go through art entries submitted in the first LOUDER Open Call. Soon after, the venues and dates for exhibitions in Finland, Romania and Russia will be released. You can follow LOUDER's journey on this website, Facebook and Instagram.
